LOCAL AND GLOBAL ISSUE CAMPAIGN CREATION

Today we are creating charitable organizations to combat the issues that are close to our hearts and minds.  As I type students are honing their mission statements and working on t-shirt designs.  A variety of issues are on the table...suicide prevention, combating world hunger, providing art supplies and instruments to the impoverished, saving the whales...and many more.  Stand by for pictures of the t-shirt designs.

Welcome to the 8th grade...

Hello,

My name is Mr. Weddle and this is my first year teaching at Arapahoe Charter and my first year teaching 8th grade. I have experience teaching high school in the United States and in South America.  I am also an artist and whenever possible I integrate the interpretation and creation of visual arts into the reading and writing curriculum.  I also love to write and we begin most days with writing a composition journal entry.
My focus this year is to introduce and discuss global perspectives and how they relate to our interpretation of our own environment and society.

We also spend time working with Latin roots and affixes in order to understand how the English language is constructed.  A basic knowledge of roots and affixes allows us to decode words we don't know when encountering them in verbal and written communication.

As we wrap up this 9-week period we have been examining marketing and advertising tactics and creating our own products which we have "pitched" to each other using personally created magazine print ads, slogans, and radio jingles.

Stay tuned for more updates.
